Delete Your Data
You don't have to delete your CookIt account to remove your data. This page explains what you can delete yourself from inside the app, and how to request a full data wipe while keeping your account.
What you can delete yourself
Individual content
You can remove any item you've created, at any time:
| Data type | How to delete |
|---|---|
| A recipe you posted | Open the recipe → tap the menu (⋯) → Delete Recipe |
| A comment you wrote | Long-press the comment → Delete |
| A like | Tap the heart again to unlike |
| A bookmark | Open the recipe → tap the bookmark icon to remove it |
| A follow | Go to the user's profile → Following → Unfollow |
| A block | Profile → menu (≡) → Blocked Users → Unblock |
Profile information

Download a copy of your data first
Before deleting anything in bulk, you can export everything we hold about you:
- Profile → menu (≡) → Privacy Settings.
- Tap Download My Data.
- You'll get a JSON file (
cookit-export-<timestamp>.json) containing your profile, recipes, comments, likes, bookmarks, follows, and blocks.
Request a full data wipe (without deleting your account)
If you want us to delete all of your content while keeping your sign-in, email us:
In your message:
- Send the request from the email address linked to your CookIt account.
- Include your username (
@yourusername). - List what you want removed (e.g. "all my recipes, comments, and bookmarks — keep my profile and account") or write "delete all my content".
We'll confirm the request, complete the deletion within 30 days, and reply when it's done.
What may remain after deletion
- Copies others have saved: If another user bookmarked one of your recipes, they keep their own saved copy.
- Aggregated, non-identifying analytics: Statistics that don't identify you personally (such as total app usage counts) may be retained.
- Backups and system logs: Routine backups and security logs may retain data for a short period before being overwritten.
