Delete Your Account
Deleting your CookIt account permanently removes your profile and all data tied to it. This action is irreversible — once your account is deleted, it cannot be restored.
Before you delete
We recommend downloading a copy of your data first, so you keep anything you might want later (your recipes, comments, bookmarks, etc.).
- Open the CookIt app and sign in.
- Go to your Profile → tap the menu (≡) → Privacy Settings.
- Tap Download My Data. You'll receive a JSON file containing your profile, recipes, comments, likes, bookmarks, follows, and blocks.
How to delete your account from inside the app
- Open CookIt and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Go to your Profile tab.
- Tap the menu (≡) in the top corner and open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
- In the confirmation screen, type your username (
@yourusername) and enter your password. Both are required to prevent accidental deletion. - Tap Delete Account to confirm.
Your account is deleted immediately. You will be signed out and returned to the login screen.
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, the following are permanently removed from our servers:
- Your profile (display name, username, bio, avatar, name history, privacy settings, notification preferences)
- All recipes you created (including ingredients, steps, photos, tags, cook/prep times)
- All comments and replies you posted
- All likes you gave
- All bookmarks you saved
- All follow relationships (people you follow and people who followed you)
- All blocks (users you blocked and users who blocked you)
- All notifications related to your account
- Your registered push notification tokens (so your devices stop receiving CookIt notifications)
- Any reports you filed
- Any pending follow requests
Your authentication record (email and password) is also removed from Supabase Auth.
What may remain
- Recipes saved by other users: If another user bookmarked one of your recipes, they keep their own saved copy. The original is removed from your profile and from public listings, but copies in other users' bookmarks may continue to appear for them.
- Local device data: Some data stored only on your device (such as recent search history or guest-mode bookmarks) is cleared on sign-out. Uninstalling the app removes anything left.
- Backups and logs: Routine system backups and security logs may retain data for a short period before being overwritten as part of normal infrastructure operations.
If you can't access the app
If you've lost access to your account (for example, you forgot your password and can't recover it), email us from the address associated with your account:
Include the username (@yourusername) you want deleted. We'll verify ownership and process the deletion manually.
